today, i woke up on our couch after falling asleep the night before ensconced in a deep snuggle with Carl and the pooch, triumphant about my earlier than anticipated return from Maryland.
today, i woke up, threw on Uggs for the first time this season, and took this girl on a very special birthday walk to the beach. she loved it.
today i ignored the fact that we just spent a ton of money paying off and setting up bills and let my sweetheart take me out to lunch;
we shared burgers and fries and even had a chocolate milkshake with two straws in it. i'm dying a little inside from all the calories but the mini date was well worth it.
i marveled at the fact that i'll probably have to craft my own mirror for my dresser upstairs because this is $2200. i think it will teach me a great deal about patience.
today i hung a new calendar, with our wedding date circled in red, and browsed the neighborhood for the first time. i'm currently trying to convince my parents to get one of the beach houses that is for sale.
i talked with Carl about our hopes and dreams for expanding our home. how strolling down the street with friendly neighbors and smelling the slight hint of salt with each breath soothed my soul.
we talked about our future and how these events that are coming up are so exciting. exciting because we spend our lives thinking about the day we get married, or find out we're expecting, but the younger we are, the more blurry the photo is. that snapshot of an idea we have of those moments slowly comes into focus more and more as time goes by. you can identify the key players and set the back drop for how they will take place.
today i was thankful for lemonade, winter sunlight and that last bit of unmelted snow, and the feel of coming home and cozying into that old favorite pair of sweats under a cable knit blanket.
we played old school video games to our heart's content.
we took the kind of nap that only occurs when you least expect it and you find yourself drifting off with tiny rays of sunshine poking through the curtains.
we even let Ruby on the bed for a highly illegal bed nap that only happened because it is her sweet face's first birthday and i wasn't about to deny her a good snuggle.
saturday's like this leave me feeling rejuvenated, optimistic, excited and so in love with my little family.
