St. Patrick's Day in Boston usually means two things - alcohol and parades. I haven't gotten drunk on St. Patrick's Day since probably 2010. The reason for that is that it's Carl's birthday! So we're usually celebrating with family or doing something else fun. Because really, once you're past a certain age, why would you want to share your birthday with 100+ drunk idiots?
The day was awesome. We got up slowly and then began prepping for everyone coming over. I made Carl's cake (recipes here and here) and after seeing this pin, I wanted to add some flair to the decorating:
It was super tasty. The sides came out a little better than the top but I also didn't have the correct size frosting top, so the "waves" are a bit smaller than I would have normally done.
We spent lots of time playing outside. I left my phone at home. It was nice to just enjoy being out and not worry about what photos I was going to take. Although, I did miss out on a super sweet picture with Carl carrying my niece on his shoulders and my brother in law carrying my nephew.
We had a huge cookout with waaaaayy too much food. Then of course came wine and lots of silly photos. My sister ended up with the best ones because my Mom wanted a new Facebook picture and she insisted on being captured naturally during conversation. Weirdos.
All in all, we had a great day. We loved entertaining for our family for the first time and Carl ended up having a fantastic day.
Happy Birthday to my heart, my happiness, and my joy ❤
